Welcome

Hi there!
I am Olivia, in case you were wondering, the picture on the right shows more or less what I look like.
In daily life I am pretty busy with violin in a fair variety of settings such as string quartet, orchestral playing, every so often a solo concerto and of course, practice.
When I was about sixteen, desperately in need of a break from homework, I put on this piece by Dvořák which I'd never heard before. It was the Water Goblin symphonic poem, his opus 107. Composed in free form, it results in a rather complex piece counting 25-some-odd minutes, it was based on a poem by the horror poet Karel Jaromír Erben, the Edgar Allan Poe of the Czech Republic so to speak.
I was struck by the dark and extremely vivid images this piece evoked on my imagination.
It was during this piece I realised music is truly a universal language and can speak to everyone, without limitations.
To me, music speaks in and through emotions, as I imagine all of us do before we acquire the skill to say our first words. Perhaps we keep this understanding of non-verbal communication to some degree when we grow older, and music might be the medium to recall it.
During my time as a student I was searching for what it is in music that speaks to me so, and how I can and want to translate this into the practicality of playing. I've loved the sound of violin from a very premature age and it has been present ever since. It is my natural voice.
That is basically my story.
As you're meant to have a website for promotional purposes in this digital day and age, I figured I would put some effort into making one too.
I hope you'll enjoy your time on these couple of floating kilobytes and please do contact me with your comments or questions.
Best wishes,
Olivia
